The Flagstaff Fire Department, in collaboration with the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Division, is set to provide residents with rollout dumpsters for the disposal of pine needles in various neighborhoods. This initiative aims to mitigate wildfire risks as the summer months approach.
The rollout dumpsters are exclusively designated for collecting pine needles and other organic materials that are flammable. These containers are not part of the Bulk Trash Pickup program, meaning non-organic items and household goods are not permitted. City staff will monitor the dumpsters, and Wildland Fire Management personnel will be present in neighborhoods to address any queries.
The scheduled dates for dumpster availability are as follows: Railroad Springs from March 31 to April 7, followed by University Heights, Coconino Estates, Rock Ridge, Ridge Crest, Anasazi Ridge, Linwood, and Cheshire from April 25 to May 2. The final location, covering Country Club and Boulder Point, is scheduled from May 5 to May 12.
Additionally, a volunteer event is planned for Saturday, April 5, focusing on clearing excess pine needles and downed branches along the Flagstaff Urban Trail System north of Railroad Springs Blvd. Interested individuals can sign up in advance at the provided link (bit.ly/PineNeedleVolunteer).
Residents are encouraged by the Flagstaff Fire Department to consult their Wildland Fire Action Guide, which is accessible at Flagstaff.az.gov/WildfireAction, to better prepare for the upcoming summer season.
