The City of Flagstaff is seeking artists to contribute to a new public art project, the Spruce Wash Wedge Artwork. This initiative aims to create a prominent three-dimensional piece at the intersection of East Cedar Avenue and North West Street. The deadline for artists to submit their Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) is March 25, 2025, by 3 p.m. Mountain Time.

This project is part of the broader Spruce Wash Watershed Improvements flood mitigation effort. The selected artwork will be designed to complement a reconfigured promontory featuring a new retaining wall and expanded sidewalk landing. It is intended to become a distinctive icon that enhances both the cultural and aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood and engages community members and visitors alike.

Artists interested in participating must demonstrate their competence, qualifications, and experience with public art through their SOQ submissions. Once an artist is chosen, they will receive a design services contract from the City. After approval of the design and completion of necessary documentation, a second contract will cover fabrication and installation.

The process involves developing a site-specific design through community engagement, research on location, artistic inspiration, and collaboration with a landscape architect selected by the City. The final artwork must adhere to budget constraints while meeting durability and safety standards such as resistance to environmental elements, minimal maintenance needs, and graffiti deterrence. Artists are required to register as vendors on Planet Bids before submitting their SOQs.

Further details about this opportunity can be found at flagstaff.az.gov/4411.
