The annual Point in Time Count (PIT) is set to begin on Thursday, January 23, across Coconino County. This event aims to document the number of unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness at a specific point in time and is part of a nationwide effort.

Data collected from the PIT Count serves as a measure of progress both locally and nationally in preventing and ending homelessness. The information gathered helps raise awareness about the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness within the community. Additionally, this data is shared at local, state, and national levels to determine funding for homeless services throughout Coconino County. The count is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Individuals experiencing homelessness who participate in this survey are eligible for an incentive, which includes either five dollars in Better Bucks, a hygiene kit, or a snack pack.

Community volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the success of this count. Those interested in volunteering can reach out to Taylor Cochran with Catholic Charities via email at tcochran@cc-az.org or phone at 928-642-7285. Alternatively, Katilin Rieg with Flagstaff Shelter Services can be contacted at kaitlin@flagshelter.org or (928) 225-2533 ext. 317.
