Megaphone gd7b38fb34 1280

City of Flagstaff issued the following announcement on Nov. 30.

The Flagstaff Water Services Strategic Plan 2025 was recognized as top in its category for visioning and branding by 3CMA – City-County Communications and Marketing Association in 2021. This national award recognized the plan as “a well thought-out, progressive and forward-thinking plan taking into account climate and environmental issues.” Adopted in 2020, it is a bottom-up approach to addressing the ten biggest issues facing the utility in the near future.

Ongoing Progress through Dialogue - The strategic plan is a brief and substantive overview of critical water issues, which lays the foundation to brainstorm the best options for the specific challenges. While progress is being made in all ten objectives, two important objectives -stormwater and wastewater infrastructure - are being actively discussed by water services staff, the water commission, and the city council.

Wastewater and Stormwater Specifics – For Wastewater, two new digesters are being designed, while the best approach to treatment capacity needs are in the planning phase. For Stormwater, Museum Fire and Eastside Flood mitigation is a top priority, with a feasibility study underway that’s reviewing the options outlined during a recent regional summit. In the meantime, Water Services is pursuing partnerships with federal, state, county, and non-profit agencies to secure the financial commitments necessary to collectively manage future flooding.
