The City of Flagstaff has secured a $4,989,600 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration. The funds are allocated for the Amtrak Station Accessibility Project under the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement program. This project involves reconstructing the current north platform and adding a new south platform to enhance passenger accessibility, rail efficiency, and safety.
An additional $1.2 million in matching funds will come from a partnership between the City of Flagstaff and BNSF Railway. The project will be part of the City's Downtown Mile Safety and Connectivity suite of projects, aiming for comprehensive improvements along the rail corridor.
Flagstaff Mayor Becky Daggett expressed her support for the initiative: “Flagstaff has been making great strides to improve transportation safety and efficiency throughout town. This grant will help us take a big leap and will greatly enhance rail safety and the overall Amtrak traveler experience.”
