The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office is organizing two events aimed at reducing waste in the community. Aimed at preventing items from ending up in landfills, these events are designed to facilitate responsible disposal and promote repair over replacement.

The first event, Drop-Off Day, is scheduled for Saturday, April 26. Participants can dispose of items such as expired or unwanted medications, aerosol cans, batteries, various types of light bulbs, electronic waste like computers and printers, medical syringes, and sensitive documents which can be shredded on-site. However, certain items will not be accepted, including CRT televisions, liquid waste, illegal drugs, car seats, and commercial waste.

The following Saturday, May 3, the Fix-It Clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Joe C. Montoya Community & Senior Center located at 245 N. Thorpe Rd. This event will connect community members with volunteers skilled in repairing small appliances, clothing, electronics, and other items. Organizers highlight the hands-on nature of the clinic, encouraging residents to learn how simple repairs can contribute to sustainability.

Appointments are suggested but not mandatory for the Fix-It Clinic. Interested participants can schedule an appointment online at the City of Flagstaff's website. For more information, Casey Rapacki, the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Supervisor, can be contacted at (928) 213-2146 or via email at casey.rapacki@flagstaffaz.gov.

Community members are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to make a positive environmental impact through waste reduction.
