The City of Flagstaff is inviting community members to participate in selection panels for public art projects as part of its Beautification, Arts & Sciences program. While prior art experience is not necessary, a strong interest in the community is important.
Panelists will be involved in evaluating artists and proposals or engaging in discussions about various projects. The commitment required varies from four to 12 hours over several days, depending on the project. Meetings are conducted virtually to enhance accessibility and convenience. The city encourages applications from individuals across different backgrounds, industries, and demographics.
Each panel includes two to three community members along with city staff and representatives from the City's Beautification and Public Art Commission. Having panelists from the area where an artwork will be installed is vital for establishing a meaningful connection between the artwork and its location. Including local voices aims to promote transparency, strengthen community engagement, and ensure that artworks reflect neighborhood values, aspirations, or cultural heritage.
"We prioritize community representation and encourage anyone who is interested in this opportunity to apply," said Weldon.
Interested community members are invited to fill out a brief online questionnaire indicating their availability and neighborhood of residence.
