City of Flagstaff Councilmember Khara House has been recognized as one of the inaugural recipients of the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Centennial Under 40 Impact Award. This award acknowledges the accomplishments of elected officials under 40 from NLC member cities, towns, and villages.
The recipients were selected from a competitive group of nominees for their contributions to public service, governance, and community development. These leaders are noted for shaping local governance's future through impactful initiatives and positive community changes.
Councilmember House expressed her gratitude by stating, "I'm humbled and so honored to have received this award for my service to Flagstaff. I love our community, and I love to serve, so I see this award as not only mine but our whole community's recognition for being a city of impact!"
Elected to the Flagstaff City Council in November 2022, Khara House is known for her commitment to service and community engagement. Before her current role, she worked in higher education and multifamily housing and served on the city’s Diversity Awareness and Housing Commissions. She is also involved as a writer, educator, volunteer, and advocate for mental health, building belonging, housing, and civic engagement.
The winners were announced at the NLC’s Centennial City Summit in Tampa, Florida on November 13. This annual event brings together municipal officials and industry leaders nationwide to celebrate achievements and address key issues facing municipal leaders.
