The City of Flagstaff will start the Snowmelt System Installation Project at the Flagstaff Visitor Center on October 7, 2024. This project aims to improve safety and accessibility by installing a heated walkway to assist with snowmelt during winter. To complete this project, the west parking lot of the Visitor Center, including ChargePoint charging stations, will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from October 7 to November 4. The Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS) path along Route 66 and the north entrance of the Visitor Center will also be fully closed during this period.

During construction, access to the front entrance of both the Visitor Center and Amtrak Station will be restricted. Staff and visitors can use the south entrances along the station loading platform. Pedestrians using FUTS will need to follow a detour route south of the Visitor Center. Temporary parking for visitors is available in the east parking lot, with a detour route marked along Phoenix Avenue.
