The City of Flagstaff has announced the completion of the Landfill Road Reconstruction Project. This project involved re-paving and improving the road from US Hwy 89 to the Cinder Lake Landfill, located northeast of Flagstaff. The reconstruction aims to provide reliable access to the landfill for customers and increase stormwater capacity along the road, addressing issues caused by wildfires and post-wildfire flooding in the area.
The project began in March 2024 under the City of Flagstaff’s Solid Waste Section and concluded in September. Key partners included Coconino County, the United States Forest Service, design engineering firm Ardurra, and contractor Rummel Construction. The total cost of the project was approximately $5 million. Coconino County contributed $2.4 million towards this cost, with the remaining funds provided by the City of Flagstaff Solid Waste Section.
