Flagstaff Unified School District issued the following announcement on Aug. 18.
School has been canceled for students at Killip Elementary School on Thursday, Aug. 19, and Friday, Aug. 20, because of flood damage that occurred Aug. 17 caused by runoff from the Museum Fire Burn Scar. The FACTS before and after school program is also canceled until further notice.
Families and staff of Killip were notified earlier today via mass notification.
Staff and teachers at Killip will use the two days to respond to the significant flood damage and prepare for temporary remote instruction. Remote instruction will be provided for students beginning Aug. 23 until students and staff can be placed in an in-person learning environment. Students will use their iPads to participate in remote learning. If a Killip student is in need of an iPad or needs internet access, contact the Killip front office at 928-773-4080.
For students in need of a safe place to go during the day on Aug. 19-20, a Safe Learning Center (SLC) site is established from 8 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. at Coconino High School. Killip students will be located in the auditorium of Coconino High School and the entrance is on the north side of the campus. Killip staff will be reassigned to the SLC to supervise students, breakfast and lunch will also be provided to students at the SLC.
Grab and Go breakfasts and lunches for Killip students will also be available for pick-up outside of Killip Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 19-20.
As changes are made, Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) will notify families and staff as information becomes available. Cleanup of Killip Elementary School and other impacted facilities within FUSD continues with the assistance of city and county entities.
