Coconino County leaders express their thanks to local and federal leaders over the recent passage of the Great American Outdoors Act legislation, which they claim will help with more than $507 million in maintenance needs for the state's federal lands.
The legislation will also give permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is "critical" for the county, according to a county press release.
“The Board of Supervisors has tirelessly advocated for many years for the improvement of federal lands within our county and funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund,” Coconino County Chairwoman Liz Archuleta said in a statement. “The Great American Outdoors Act will help to revitalize the infrastructure of federal lands and provide more public open space for recreation, a vital component to increasing the economic value of tourism."
The funding will help to support the maintenance of the Grand Canyon National Park, Wupatki National Monument, Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, Sunset Crater and Walnut Canyon National Monument, according to the county's release.
