Grand Canyon National Park has increased recreational access to a number of its operations amid COVID-19.
“The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers and partners continues to be paramount,” states a post on the National Park Service (NPS) website. “At Grand Canyon National Park, our operational approach will be to examine each facility function and service provided to ensure those operations comply with current public health guidance, and will be regularly monitored.”
The park’s North Rim is now open for day use while the south entrance of South Rim is open 24/7, according to the NPS website. Private, noncommercial river trips with current permits will be allowed to launch starting June 14. New permits will not be issued before the end of June.
“When recreating, the public should follow local area health orders, practice Leave No Trace principles, avoid crowding and avoid high-risk outdoor activities,” the NPS post stated.
