The Mountain Line bus system may start asking customers if their trip is necessary.
If not, passengers may not be allowed to board. It is now operating with free fare, and on the weekend schedule for the foreseeable future. Last week, the changes were implemented and are now extended as a response to the city's extension of closures on Thursday.
The agency has hired extra personal to keep bus stops clean, and may stop passengers if they are not traveling for essential services or an essential employee.
“Mountain Line is here to serve people who need us to get to essential services and jobs. To promote social distancing, those who have other options or are taking a non-essential trip are asked to not use the bus right now. All riders must have a trip purpose and those who do not have a destination will not be allowed to board," said a statement released by The Mountain Line according to The Arizona Daily Sun.
The Mountain Line always had a policy requiring passengers have a destination, and has changed its policies in response to social distancing measures.
