The City of Flagstaff has released findings from its "Art, Culture, Science and the Future in Flagstaff" report, now available on the city's website. The report evaluates how existing programs meet community needs, identifying both successes and areas for improvement while exploring broader community aspirations.
The study highlights successful initiatives and strategic opportunities informed by insights from peer cities. It underscores Flagstaff's dedication to fostering a vibrant arts and culture environment.
"Community feedback is a driving force of the Beautification, Arts & Sciences program," stated Community Investment Director David McIntire. "These findings will guide our investments of Bed, Board & Beverage (BBB) funding and program initiatives in the years ahead."
Flagstaff residents see their city as a dynamic creative hub that supports emerging artists and organizations of all sizes. The report notes strong support for projects such as ARTx, the Flagstaff Festival of Science, public art installations, grant programs, and exhibitions. Respondents also pointed out areas for growth including venue improvements, better promotion of the non-profit cultural sector, outreach to underserved communities, and increased investment in local artists through training and funding.
"Flagstaff allocates a higher proportion of grant funding directly to nonprofits than most peer cities and other municipalities in Arizona," McIntire added. "This commitment reflects our belief that art, culture and science created by the community can lift the cultural experience citywide—something we can all take pride in."
