When it comes to winter preparedness, don’t forget your pets

When it comes to winter preparedness, don’t forget your pets.

Exposure to winter’s dry, cold air and chilly rain, sleet and snow can cause chapped paws and itchy, flaking skin, but these aren’t the only discomforts pets can suffer. Even with a natural fur coat, winter can be deadly for your pets.

Winter walks can become dangerous if chemicals from ice-melting agents are licked off of bare paws, so be sure to clean their feet off after your winter stroll.

You need an emergency go-bag and so do your pets! CCEM put together a list of what we keep in our pet's go-bags, but there are many resources to help you pack yours. You can check out https://www.ready.gov/pets for more information.
