All things Flagstaff and Colorado Plateau. Kind of like a visit to a neighbor's house to hear about their vacation--but different!
July: Dine poet & storyteller, Karen Smith
In Karen's words:
Ya'ateeh', shi eh' Karen Smith, yiniish'yee
Too'dii'chii'nii nishlii'; Too' tsoh'nii daa' shii chei
Hello, my name is Karen Smith
my maternal clan is Bitterwater and my maternal grandfather clan is Bigwater
I am blessed to call these sacred and holy Ancestral migration pathways and homeland right here at the base of Dine's western protector mother, Dookoosliid, Home. I am grateful and honored to be asked to share some experiences, stories and writings that have been shaped by my Indigeneity so that I can stand with my True self without the historical and generational shame and traumas resulting from the life denying internalized colonial and conquesting white supremacist and paternalistic racism. It is a true honor to not just write these words but then to say them aloud. I not only healing myself but my beloved Ancestry as well.
