City of Flagstaff issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.
The Flagstaff Sustainability Office is hosting its 9-week Flagstaff Sustainability Leaders training program to educate and equip participants to be advocates for climate action. After the completion of the course, participants become members of a growing volunteer group that leads sustainability initiatives in the Flagstaff community.
The program takes place every Wednesday from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. from April 6 through June 1, 2022, at the Flagstaff Sustainability Office (419 N. Mogollon Flagstaff, AZ 86001). There is a $50 course fee, although a sliding scale is offered based upon ability to pay. Masks must be worn by participants at all times and class capacity is limited to 20 participants.
Course topics include perspectives on sustainable communities, climate change 101, communicating on climate, climate justice, equity, vulnerability and collective action, waste minimization and behavior change, food systems and consumption, water, energy, and structural change, sustainable transportation, and land conservation and fire ecology. Volunteer opportunities are also available as part of the program.
