Coconino National Forest issued the following announcement on July 25.
Be aware of flooding across Forest Roads!!
Forest Road 525 at 89A is closed to its terminus at Honanki Heritage Site. Forest Road 152C is closed from the intersection with Aerie Road to the intersection with road 525.
Bear Mountain community residents have extremely limited access into or out of the area at this time, and several motorists have found themselves stuck today. There are reports of other washout and damage to Forest Service roads throughout the Verde Valley including other roads that are use to access private land.
Forest Service engineers will be working to reestablish and repair roads, but the rains need to subside before work can be done safely. Engineers will review the 152c and other Verde Valley roads beginning tomorrow.
Residents who use a Forest Service Road to access their property should plan for limited access in cases of inclement weather and should be prepared to shelter in place if needed.
You will see signs and gates for ‘wet weather closures’ on Forest Service roads throughout the Verde Valley when there is significant rain because unsurfaced roads become slippery from the clay, muddy and unsafe for travel. Residents may access these areas, but do so at their own risk. Be aware that:
* Boulders in the road, road washouts and other hazards are likely.
* Do not drive into flooded areas. If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground if you can do so safely.
* Just six inches of moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
* Stay off of bridges over fast-moving water.
