The City of Flagstaff is looking into funding the wildlife and watershed protection work, but sustainability is also on the mind of city council, Arizona Daily Sun reported.
Flagstaff City Council is considering a fund for the city's Wildland Fire Management program, which could also put money toward the Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project (FWPP), Arizona Daily Sun reported. The council is also looking at the Sustainability Section's finances.
Money going toward the Wildland Fire Management and FWPP would be used to manage fire training, qualifications and water use.
"The Wildland Fire Management program maintains the community’s investment through partnerships on county and private lands,” Neil Chapman, Flagstaff's forest health supervisor, told Arizona Sun. “It’s really an important program to make sure the city has its own wildland fire management decision makers at the table to maintain investments made in the city’s forest protection.”
In addition, a new sustainability fee would be used to ensure Flagstaff residents are paying based on their water usage, Arizona Daily Sun reported.
“This is rooted in our intent to ensure the fee is more equitably distributed across all service addresses,” Nicole Antonopoulos, Flagstaff's sustainability manager, told Arizona Daily Sun.
