The City of Flagstaff has issued a Notice of Proposed Property Tax Increase for the fiscal year 2024-2025, prompting discussions and considerations by the City Council regarding a potential levy adjustment. As per the notice, the current budget proposal does not include an increase in the primary property tax levy, emphasizing the preliminary nature of the decision-making process.

Brandi Suda, the Finance Director, highlighted that no definitive decision has been reached regarding the tax levy increase, indicating that the upcoming April Budget Retreat scheduled for April 25-26, 2024, will provide an opportunity for the City Council to deliberate on this matter. The public is invited to attend this meeting, which will take place at the Core Service Administrative Building in Flagstaff, Arizona.

In adherence to state regulations, should the City Council deem it necessary to augment the primary property tax levy, a Truth in Taxation hearing will be conducted. The public hearing is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., at the City of Flagstaff Council Chambers.

Annual approval of property taxes through ordinance is a standard procedure, with the initial reading of the ordinance possibly occurring on June 18, 2024, and the final reading on July 2, 2024. The City Council will consider setting the primary property tax rate during these meetings.

By issuing this notice, the City Council aims to maintain flexibility in determining the property tax levy for the FY2024-2025 Budget. The maximum allowable levy is stated to be $7,983,169 at a rate of .7025 per $100 of net assessed valuation, reflecting an increase from the previous year's levy.

For any inquiries or further information regarding the proposed property tax increase, individuals are encouraged to contact Brandi Suda, as indicated in the notice.

The Notice of Proposed Property Tax Increase was officially posted on the City's website on April 15, 2024, by Sarah Langley. More details, including the schedule of the proposed increase in primary property taxes and the accompanying written report, can be accessed through the provided link.
