The City of Flagstaff is gearing up to host its annual Earth Day Celebration on April 20, inviting community members to come together for a day of eco-friendly activities and initiatives. The event, organized by the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office, promises a range of engaging experiences for attendees.

The celebration will kick off with a community litter clean-up led by the Arizona Conservation Corps (AZCC) from 9-10 a.m., followed by a day filled with various environmentally-conscious activities. Participants can expect live music, delicious food from a local food truck, workshops, and the opportunity to explore sustainable-minded organizations.

One of the highlights of the day includes a workshop on Sustainable Pet Care at 11 a.m., where attendees can learn how to repurpose old clothing into dog tug toys, promoting the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. High Country Humane will also have adoptable pups onsite, adding an element of animal welfare to the event.

For cycling enthusiasts, a Bike Fix-It Clinic will be held at 12 p.m., offering free repairs for bikes of all kinds. Whether it's a simple tire pressure check or a more complex brake replacement, volunteers from Absolute Bikes and Cromer Elementary School will be available to assist.

At 1 p.m., the Stream Stewards Program will host an interactive workshop on Stream Stewardship, focusing on practices and community connections related to the Rio de Flag. This educational session will shed light on the importance of maintaining the stream as a vital wildlife habitat.

To encourage sustainable transportation to the event, attendees are urged to consider walking, biking, or using public transportation. Mountain Line will be offering free service on April 20 to support this initiative, with additional perks such as a community bike ride and bike valet.

For those interested in volunteering or seeking more information about the event, Steven Thompson, reachable at steven.thompson@flagstaffaz.gov or (928) 213-2144, is the contact person to consult. Further details and registration for volunteer opportunities can be accessed at Flagstaff.az.gov/EarthDay.
