Merissa Hamilton, Chairwoman of Strong Communities Action, has expressed her support for Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House.
In a post on the X platform, Hamilton stated, "The American people wanted Jim Jordan in January for House Speaker and we want him to be Speaker today. The people won't be forgiving of any member of House Republicans rolling the people & voting for Dem Party ruining this country."
This comes as Republican Rep. Jim Jordan faced another setback in his quest for the role of House Speaker. In a second vote on Wednesday, 22 House Republicans voted against him, slightly more than the 20 opposing votes he received in the first round. Despite this, Jordan remains determined to continue seeking the support needed to become the next Speaker. Several Republican representatives have expressed concerns about feeling pressured to vote for Jordan, as their colleagues are singling them out for not endorsing his candidacy. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy faced a similar challenge when it took 15 rounds of voting in January to secure his role as speaker.
The recent motion to oust McCarthy, initiated by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, marked an event that has not taken place in over a century. As a result, the House is now responsible for selecting a new Speaker. The motion was successful with a vote of 216 to 210, with eight Republicans aligning with Democrats in favor of McCarthy's removal from the speakership. McCarthy subsequently announced that he would not seek re-election, according to CNN.
Jim Jordan is known as one of the "most conservative members of Congress" and a strong advocate for taxpayers. He is a supporter of former President Trump and played a role in founding the House Freedom Caucus, where he served as its first chairman. Jordan holds the position of chairman on the House Judiciary Committee and is an active member of the House Oversight Committee. He currently represents Ohio's 4th District and holds a master's degree in education, a law degree, and a bachelor's degree in economics.
In response to the opposition against Jordan, Rogan O'Handley, Ambassador of Turning Point USA, questioned the complaints about "intimidation" tactics, stating, "We're literally just telling you what voters want. Stop acting like the victim now that voters are calling you out for backstabbing them in exchange for lobbyist money."
As the race for Speaker of the House continues, the support for Jim Jordan remains strong among some Republicans, while others express concerns about the pressure to endorse his candidacy. The next round of voting will determine whether Jordan can secure the necessary support to become the next Speaker.
