USDA Announces Coconino County Superintendent of Schools as a Recipient of Urban Agriculture Grant

Coconino County issued the following announcement on Oct. 6.

Coconino County Superintendent of Schools is pleased to announce that the Coconino County Education Service Agency was selected to receive a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant for $259,128.

Coconino County Superintendent of Schools, Cheryl Mango-Paget, is pleased to announce that the Coconino County Education Service Agency was selected to receive a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant for $259,128 through the Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production (UAIP). 

The Coconino County Education Service Agency in collaboration with Terra Birds and project partners representing small farms, community gardens, schools, hunger relief centers, and local Native American groups will develop, implement, and refine a model for community and culturally connected agriculture education to increase engagement in the local food system and increase food security for resident populations in need.

The UAIP Competitive Grants Program supports a wide range of activities.  Activities include operating community gardens and nonprofit farms, increasing food production and access in economically distressed communities, providing job training and education, and developing business plans and zoning.
