City hosts meet and greet event for Water Services Director candidates

The City of Flagstaff invites members of the public to attend a meet and greet event on Monday, Oct. 3 from 3 – 5 p.m. at Flagstaff City Hall for final candidates for the position of Water Services Director. The City received 25 applications, conducted 11 screening interviews, and invited four candidates to participate in the meet and greet following preliminary interviews. 

The candidate names and a brief biography are included below:

  • Shannon Jones – Mr. Jones has an associates of applied science in environmental science, holds a level four certification for water and wastewater system operations and a certificate in facility technology. He has 24 years of public service. Mr. Jones currently serves as a Public Utilities Department Director for the City of Santa Fe.  His previous roles consisted of Wastewater Management Division Director, Buckman Direct Diversion Facility Manager, and Transmission and Distribution Manager for City of Santa Fe.
  • Erin Young – Ms. Young has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in geology and is an Arizona Professional Geologist. She has nine years of public service and 13 years in private industry. Ms. Young currently serves as the Water Resources Manager for the City of Flagstaff. She previously worked for Fluid Solutions and Hydrosystems Inc. as a hydrologist. 
  • Gary Miller – Mr. Miller is an Arizona Professional Engineer with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a Certified Public Manager.  He has 16 years of public service and two years of private industry experience. He is currently the Water Services Engineering Section Director for the City of Flagstaff. He previously worked for Kiewit Corporation as a project engineer and estimator. 
  • James Sacker – Mr. Sacker attended Okanagan University and received a water quality technology diploma. He has 24 years of service in utilities and public works operations. He is currently the Drainage Utility Superintendent for the City of Amarillo. He previously served in the City of Camrose, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, City of Calgary, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, and Grande Prairie.
