Steve Gaynor for Governor issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.
Steve Gaynor, Republican businessman and candidate for Arizona governor delivered a petition to Secretary of State Katie Hobbs demanding immediate action to fix the broken E-Qual candidate qualification system. The petition was signed by more than 1,000 Arizona citizens.
In a letter sent earlier today, Gaynor said: “Your position as Secretary of State is granted by the voters of this state, and your service to them should be your highest priority. The people of Arizona have made their demands clear: fix the E-Qual system NOW.”
Gaynor has championed free and fair elections and has heavily criticized Hobbs’ failure to keep basic election systems running. He has called for a legislative investigation of Hobbs’ actions and has criticized Hobbs’ partisan approach to the Secretary of State’s office, noting that Hobbs once said, “the Secretary of State’s office is how we (Democrats) are going to make gains in the Legislature.”

Text of the petition
Text of the letter below:
Secretary Hobbs:
Your office’s negligence in handling the collapse of the candidate qualification system (E-Qual) has created outrage among the people of Arizona. I recently asked Arizonans to join me in demanding a fix to the E-Qual system, and received an overwhelming response. More than 1,000 Arizona citizens have already signed this petition, and they demand your immediate action. See below.
By failing to anticipate the effect of redistricting or fix the problems with the system, you have set up a discriminatory system that is an affront to the standards of democratic process Arizona voters deserve. Your failure to fix the system, as well as your callous suggestions that candidates hire attorneys to figure it out, is unacceptable to me and the people of our state.
Your position as Secretary of State is granted by the voters of this state, and your service to them should be your highest priority. The people of Arizona have made their demands clear: fix the E-Qual system NOW.
Steve Gaynor
Republican
Candidate for Arizona Governor
