CITY OF PEORIA: Peoria Launches Drought Ready Web Page

Announcement

City of Peoria issued the following announcement on July 7.

Living in the desert, water remains one of our most precious resources. As Arizonans continue to hear more about the anticipated Tier 1 water shortage in 2022, it is important that Peoria residents have the facts and know that Peoria’s water supply is not impacted.

Declining water levels in Lake Mead, which serves as the reservoir for water in the Lower Colorado River Basin, are triggering a Tier 1 shortage declaration. Peoria has prepared for drought conditions in Arizona for many years and has plans in place if the shortage levels on the Colorado River continue to worsen. In fact, only 34% of Peoria’s water supply is from the Colorado River/CAP Canal. Additionally, Peoria only uses 61% of our available CAP supply and then the rest is stored underground for later use.
