Northern Arizona University (NAU) will hold commencement for the Class of 2020, but it will look a little different than expected.
Graduation will happen virtually, instead of at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome, on account of the spread of the novel coronavirus, according to a report from the Arizona Daily Sun.
NAU President Rita Cheng made the decision to cancel the in-person commencement ceremonies after considering the guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control on social distancing and prevention of the spread of COVID-19.
The virtual ceremony will occur in May, and graduates will be invited to walk in a special in-person ceremony in December.
“I am extremely proud of the way our Lumberjacks have come together during these challenging times to find ways to help each other and ensure a better and brighter future,” Cheng said in her email to graduating students.
