Northern Arizona University Athletics secured the Big Sky Women’s All-Sports Trophy for the 11th time in school history and the fifth time in the last six years, according to a June 1 announcement from Farmington, Utah.

The trophy standings are calculated using a formula that considers each school’s regular season finish or conference tournament results across all conference-sponsored sports. Points are awarded based on performance in basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and tennis during regular seasons, while track and field, cross country and golf points are determined by championship outcomes. Indoor and outdoor track and field points are averaged into one score.

“I’d like to congratulate the student-athletes, coaches and staff of our women’s programs for capturing the Big Sky Women’s All-Sports Trophy for the second consecutive year,” said Deputy Athletic Director of Internal Operations/SWA Beth Vechinski. “Their dedication to championship excellence is apparent and this is an outstanding honor for our entire Athletic Department. All in all, the 2025-26 season was another extremely successful one for our department and we’re proud of all of our student-athletes representing NAU Athletics with the highest standard.”

Since 2016-17, Northern Arizona’s women have claimed seven out of nine possible trophies; no award was given in 2019-20 due to COVID-19. The Lumberjacks’ total of 11 wins remains unmatched within the Big Sky Conference. In this latest cycle, Northern Arizona finished with a score of 7.86 ahead of Montana State’s 7.25.

During the season, Northern Arizona earned championships in women’s cross country—its seventh straight—and volleyball—the team’s first regular season title since 2018—as well as titles in indoor track & field (fifth consecutive) and golf (first since 2022). The team also placed second in outdoor track & field and tennis. Although not included toward this trophy calculation, NAU’s swimming & diving team captured its thirteenth consecutive conference title during its inaugural Mountain Pacific Sports Federation campaign.

The men’s teams at Northern Arizona placed third overall but won five Big Sky Championships across cross country; indoor and outdoor track & field; as well as both regular season and tournament tennis competitions—bringing their department total to ten championships during 2025-26. Northern Arizona Lumberjacks competes as part of the Big Sky Conference; has excelled particularly in cross country and track & field with national titles among alumni; promotes student-athlete development through comprehensive support services; features facilities such as Walkup Skydome and Lumberjack Stadium; has earned frequent recognition on academic teams; includes distinguished alumni inducted into conference halls of fame—all according to the official website.
