The City of Flagstaff announced on May 6 that Lone Tree Road will be closed in both directions from Butler Avenue to Franklin Avenue from May 11 to May 15 as part of the Lone Tree Overpass and Corridor Project. The closure is intended to allow for the installation of roadway pavement, while two lanes of traffic will remain open on Butler Avenue during this period.

The project aims to improve mobility and safety by creating a new north-south roadway connection extending Lone Tree Road between Butler Avenue in the south and Route 66 in the north. Funding for this initiative comes from Proposition 419 and Proposition 420, which were approved by voters in 2018.

According to city officials, Butler Avenue is expected to reopen fully with four lanes of traffic in late May or early June. Construction activities will continue on Lone Tree Road south of Butler Avenue throughout the summer construction season.

The City of Flagstaff operates under an elected mayor and council members who establish policy and provide guidance, according to the official website. The city delivers community services through its departments and divisions while encouraging public involvement via boards, commissions, and elections. In addition, Flagstaff received designation as the world’s first International Dark Sky City in 2001. The city has also enacted ordinances since 1958 related to outdoor lighting management, including zoning codes adopted in 1989 that limit outdoor lighting per acre.
