Jonathan Nez, candidate for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District and former President of the Navajo Nation, announced on April 8 that he has raised over $1 million in the first quarter of 2026 and holds more than $1.3 million in cash on hand. The campaign reported an average grassroots donation of $24, with more than 18,000 contributions from 13,319 donors across every county in Arizona and all 50 states.
Nez said, “I want to thank all of our grassroots supporters who power our campaign. This is truly a movement of people fed up with a politics that has put billionaires and corporations over the needs of hardworking rural Arizonans. As I travel the District, I hear the frustration of voters who can no longer afford the policies of Eli ‘High Costs’ Crane, particularly the recent spike in gas prices. This added pain at the pump comes after Crane cut access to affordable health care while spiking insurance premiums, voted against more affordable housing, and supported the disastrous tariffs that have hurt both consumers and small businesses. He’s costing us more every day. We are building a campaign that puts the needs of rural Arizona first and will continue to build a movement that sends Rep. Crane back to his gated community in Oro Valley this November.”
According to information provided by his campaign, Nez is running as the Democratic nominee for Congress in AZ-02 after serving as President of the Navajo Nation beginning in 2018. He grew up in rural Arizona helping his family run a ranch without running water or electricity before starting his public service career in Shonto on the Navajo Nation.
Nez’s campaign says he is focused on lowering costs for families, delivering water security to all Arizonans, and giving rural residents a voice in Congress. He lives in Flagstaff with his wife Phefelia and their two sons.
