Jennifer Stasinopoulos has been named the new Library Director for City and County Services in Flagstaff, with her appointment effective April 12. Economic Vitality Director Heidi Hansen said that Stasinopoulos was selected from a pool of 27 qualified candidates after a thorough recruitment process, which included screening interviews, an in-person panel interview, and a community meet and greet.

Hansen said, “Jennifer has over a decade of library leadership experience and has had great success overseeing library city services since 2024. She is ready for this next step with directing both the city and county library district. She was selected from a pool of 27 qualified candidates and participated in a rigorous recruitment process, including a screening interview, an in-person panel interview, and a community meet and greet. I am excited to have Jennifer in this new role, I know she will do wonderful work.”

Stasinopoulos currently serves as deputy library director for city services at the Flagstaff City-County Public Library. Her previous roles include serving as the director for the Ted & Grace Bachhuber Memorial Library from 2020 to 2024 and holding various positions within libraries since 2013. Before entering librarianship, she worked as an adjunct faculty member at several colleges. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana along with master’s and bachelor’s degrees in English from Ohio State University.

Stasinopoulos said, “I am excited and honored to step into this role leading a library system with such a tradition of outstanding service to the diverse communities we serve. Since joining the library team in 2024, I have seen firsthand the dedication of our staff to providing free and open access to information and creating welcoming, active community spaces where early literacy, lifelong learning, and intellectual freedom thrive. I approach this role with a deep sense of responsibility and am eager to build on this strong foundation as we grow and expand our services to meet the evolving needs of our communities.”

The City of Flagstaff operates under an elected mayor-council government structure that establishes policy guidance according to its official website. The city delivers community services through departments while encouraging public involvement via boards, commissions, or elections as noted by its official website. In addition to its governance model focused on public engagement,
the city received designation as the world’s first International Dark Sky City in 2001 according to its official website.

Flagstaff’s history includes early adoption of outdoor lighting management ordinances beginning in 1958 according to its official website, followed by zoning codes adopted in 1989 that limit outdoor lighting per acre as reported by its official website.

With Stasinopoulos stepping into her new leadership position later this month,
the city’s focus remains on expanding accessible information resources while maintaining traditions recognized both locally—and internationally.
