Pedestrian crossing improvements will begin the week of June 1 along Soliere Avenue, according to a May 26 announcement from the City of Flagstaff. The project is a partnership between the city, Mountain Line, and Kinney Construction Services as part of the “First Mile, Last Mile Initiative.”

The initiative aims to add safe pedestrian infrastructure near Mountain Line bus stops throughout Flagstaff. Most new crossings will include a pedestrian refuge median so pedestrians only need to cross one lane at a time. Crossings are planned for Soliere Avenue at Fox Lair Drive (east), Fox Lair Drive (west)/Brian’s Way, Elk Run Street, Butterfield Drive, and Timberline Drive.

Construction work may occur Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with one lane of traffic in each direction remaining open throughout the project. Businesses, schools, and residential communities will remain accessible during construction. Motorists should expect travel delays and traffic control devices in place; periodic sidewalk or pedestrian closures may also occur.

The city asks drivers to follow marked signage and consider alternate routes if possible during construction. For more information about the project or updates on progress, residents can visit connect.flagstaffaz.gov/first-mile-last-mile-pedestrian-improvements or call the Project Hotline at (928) 255-5153.

Flagstaff delivers community services through its departments while promoting public involvement via boards and commissions, and operates under an elected mayor and council members who establish policy guidance, according to the official website.
