The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office announced on April 13 that it will host three community events this spring: the Earth Day Celebration on April 18, Drop Off Day on April 25, and the Fix-It Clinic on May 2.
These events aim to promote sustainability and encourage community involvement in environmental stewardship. The Earth Day Celebration will take place at Bushmaster Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring live music, workshops, food trucks, and activities with sustainable-minded organizations. Volunteers are needed for various roles such as setup, waste prevention, bike valet services, fire-wise activities, invasive plant removal, and supporting the event mascot. The event is designed to be accessible for all attendees with American Sign Language translators and wheelchair-accessible facilities available.
Drop Off Day is scheduled for April 25 at the Coconino County Health and Human Services building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where residents can properly dispose of items like expired medications, batteries, lightbulbs, electronic waste, medical syringes, aerosol cans, and sensitive documents (with a two-box limit per vehicle). However, CRT televisions, liquid waste including latex paint or chemicals, illegal drugs, car seats or commercial waste will not be accepted.
The Fix-It Clinic will occur on May 2 at the Joe C. Montoya Community & Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., pairing residents with volunteers who can help repair small appliances or electronics and mend clothing. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are welcome.
