Shannon Anderson, the Senior Deputy City Manager of Flagstaff, has been chosen to receive the 2025 Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award. These awards are presented annually to highlight the significant work of Arizona’s civil servants and their contributions to solving problems and strengthening institutions.
Anderson was recognized with the Civic Leader award for her exceptional service in supporting Arizona communities throughout her career. Since 2006, she has focused on operational excellence and improving city services in Flagstaff through a people-first approach. Her leadership emphasizes public service commitment, cross-department collaboration, and enhancing the quality of life for Flagstaff residents.
In response to receiving the award, Anderson expressed gratitude: “Thank you to the Center for the Future of Arizona and Ross Zimmerman for recognizing the work and contributions in public service. I was honored to be nominated and receive the Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award for Civic Leader. It is a privilege to work with the amazing team in Flagstaff in serving our community. Congratulations to all the Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award recipients!”
The Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Awards honor nonelected public servants’ contributions to their communities. They are named after Gabe Zimmerman, who was killed during a mass shooting at a “Congress on Your Corner” event in 2011. The awards are organized by the Center for the Future of Arizona, the Zimmerman family, and the Arizona City/County Management Association.
