The Flagstaff Hullabaloo Festival announced that its 17th annual event will take place June 6-7 in Wheeler Park, coinciding with the Route 66 Centennial celebration across Northern Arizona.
Attendees can expect a range of family-friendly activities, including a parade and kids’ area. The festival is known for its performers, featuring both longtime veterans and newcomers. Organizers said the event has been voted Best Flagstaff Festival more than ten times.
This year’s lineup includes Phoenix-based Giovanni Kiyingi, originally from Uganda. His music is described as Afropop/Afroswing and is expected to encourage dancing among festivalgoers.
Festival founder and organizer Matt Ziegler said Hullabaloo has a history of showcasing world music from various cultures, focusing on acts that inspire dancing and celebration. “The more horns, percussion and back-up singers, the better,” according to Ziegler. He added, “I think there is a common thread through music around the world. If I can connect people in Flagstaff with music from artists like Gio, who may sound different from what they are used to but still resonate through their souls, it reinforces a feeling of celebrating community around the world and back.”
Organizers invited attendees to experience performances like Kiyingi’s as part of the festival’s ongoing commitment to musical diversity.
