The City of Flagstaff and the Flagstaff Police Department confirmed on Apr. 9 that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO) has signed a lease for office space at Suites 150 and 160, located at 1585 S. Plaza Way in Flagstaff.

The update matters to local residents as it clarifies the presence of a federal immigration agency in the community, addresses public concerns, and outlines how future city involvement would be managed.

Members of the public with questions about ICE’s presence or activities in northern Arizona are encouraged to contact ICE directly via their Arizona outreach email: Phoenix.Outreach@ice.dhs.gov. The City stated that ICE is the appropriate authority to address such inquiries.

Currently, no request has been made for use of any City property for ICE-related operations. The City said that if such a request arises, “the City Manager will review and act on it in accordance with the City’s recently established Directive on the Use of City Property.” Officials also reported reaching out proactively to federal agencies seeking more information about ICE’s planned activities in Flagstaff and requested that accurate information be shared directly with residents.

“Flagstaff is a community built on strong relationships, and we expect cooperation, transparency, and open communication from our federal government as this situation develops,” officials said.

Flagstaff operates under an elected mayor and council members who establish policy for the city according to its official website. The city delivers services through various departments while encouraging public participation via boards, commissions, and elections according to its official website.

Flagstaff has received international recognition as an International Dark Sky City since 2001 according to its official website, reflecting long-standing efforts like adopting zoning codes in 1989 limiting outdoor lighting per acre according to its official website and enacting an ordinance in 1958 addressing outdoor lighting issues according to its official website.
