The City of Flagstaff and Ames Construction will start the next phase of the Lone Tree Overpass project on March 2. The construction will take place along Butler Avenue between O’Leary Street and Lumber Street, as well as Lone Tree Road between Butler Avenue and Sawmill Road. The project includes rebuilding the roadway, installing water lines, sanitary sewers, storm drains, and making improvements to curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, and adding bike lanes and multi-use paths. Completion is expected by December 2026.
Construction hours are scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., with possible weekend work. From March 2 to August 14, traffic on Lone Tree Road between Butler Avenue and Sawmill Road will be reduced to one lane in both directions. Eastbound and westbound lanes on Butler Avenue will also be limited to one lane each way. Left turns onto or off Lone Tree Road from Butler Avenue will not be allowed during this period. A revised traffic plan for the rest of the year will be provided later. Access for local businesses and residents will remain available throughout construction.
According to city officials: “The Lone Tree Overpass project aims to improve mobility and safety with a new north-south roadway connection extending Lone Tree Rd. between Butler Ave. to the south and Route 66 to the north.” Funding comes from voter-approved Proposition 419 and Proposition 420 in 2018.
Flagstaff operates under an elected mayor and council members who set policy for the city (https://www.flagstaff.az.gov/). The city also provides community services through its departments while encouraging public involvement via boards, commissions, and elections (https://www.flagstaff.az.gov/).
