The City of Flagstaff announced on Apr. 1 that crews are responding to an issue with the railroad crossing at Ponderosa Parkway, which is causing traffic impacts. BNSF Railroad teams, along with City Public Works and Police, are managing the situation and working to address both the technical problem and its effects on local traffic.

The affected rail crossing has led to disruptions for drivers in the area. The city said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Flagstaff operates under an elected mayor and council members who set policy for city operations, according to the official website. The city delivers community services through its various departments and divisions while encouraging public involvement through boards, commissions, and elections according to the official website.

Flagstaff is also recognized for its efforts in managing outdoor lighting. The city adopted zoning codes in 1989 that limit outdoor lighting per acre according to the official website. An ordinance was enacted in 1958 specifically aimed at addressing outdoor lighting issues according to the official website. In recognition of these measures, Flagstaff received designation as the world’s first International Dark Sky City in 2001 according to the official website.

Officials say they will continue monitoring conditions at Ponderosa Parkway and advise residents to look out for further announcements regarding traffic management.
