The City of Flagstaff has announced that 6th Avenue will be closed for one month starting October 13 as part of ongoing work on the Spruce Wash Flood Mitigation projects. The closure will affect the stretch between 1st Street and Main Street to allow for construction of the Killip Basin Outlet Structure, a storm drain system designed to help manage large storm events.
According to city officials, detour routes will be established along East Street, 4th Avenue, 3rd Street, and Dortha Avenue. These detours are intended to maintain access for businesses, residents, and WF Killip Elementary School within the affected area. Sidewalks will remain accessible during construction.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to follow posted detour signs throughout the duration of the closure. The project aims to prevent water from overtopping detention basins by creating a secondary outlet that connects from the Killip School Regional Detention Basins to an existing pipe on Main Street.
